FATIGUE DAMAGE TO OFFSHORE STRUCTURES

FATIGUE DAMAGE STUDY ON OFFSHORE STRUCTURES IN SEVERE ENVIRONMENTS

Program: Asturias Program 2018-2020

Objective: The failure of components in offshore conditions is not sufficiently studied or defined in the manufacturing codes, so the structures subjected to these conditions tend to have an oversized design and therefore a higher manufacturing cost. The objective of the project focuses on minimizing these costs, facilitating the possibility for manufacturers to use less conservative structural designs, through the information obtained from the S-N fatigue curves and the Paris Law of crack growth rate. These curves will be calculated within the project, for offshore tubular structures in different combinations of temperature and oxygen in a medium that simulates the marine environment, in order to recreate fatigue damage in the most realistic offshore conditions possible.
