Policy solutions to support the decarbonisation of the EU steel industry: Participate in the survey!

The Green Steel for Europe project (GREENSTEEL) supports the European Union (EU) towards achieving the 2030 climate and energy targets and implementing the 2050 long-term strategy for a climate-neutral Europe with effective solutions for clean steelmaking.

Through its innovative approach consisting of the combined assessment of promising technologies, industrial transformation scenarios, and policy options and impacts, GREENSTEEL will effectively contribute to the sustainable decarbonisation of the EU steel industry. The project helps position the EU as a leading provider of low-carbon products, services, and advanced technologies in steelmaking, and supports the green transition and fight against climate change on a global scale.

GREENSTEEL ultimately aims to put forward policy recommendations to foster the decarbonisation of the EU steel industry. It focuses on six key areas that are crucial to ensure the green transition of the steel industry:

  • Funding;
  • Renewable electricity;
  • Carbon pricing;
  • Green hydrogen;
  • Carbon capture usage and storage; and
  • Steel and iron scrap.

Against this background, this questionnaire aims to gather feedback on the expected impacts of policy options that can contribute to decarbonise the EU steel industry. It can be found in the link below: https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/Policy_solutions_Greensteel

The questionnaire has been designed to take up to 45 minutes of your time, based on the number of sections you decide to complete. It includes mainly closed-ended questions asking you to provide your best estimate of the possible impacts stemming from different policy options. The questionnaire includes the following sections:

  • Registration and general information
  • Funding (FD)
  • Renewable electricity (RES-E)
  • EU carbon pricing (CP)
  • Carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS)
  • Green hydrogen (GH)
  • Steel and iron scrap (SC)
  • Additional remarks
  • Privacy settings

Only section 1 and 9 are mandatory. You are therefore free to focus only on those topics that you are relatively more familiar with.

We would suggest that you respond to section 2 on Funding and at least one other section. The funding chapter is especially important due to its horizontal relevance across different policy areas. The survey will be open until 11 April 2021.

You can download the questionnaire in PDF format if you wish to prepare your answers prior to starting the online questionnaire.

You can also save a draft version of your answers to complete or edit them at a later stage.
