Bonn will become the global epicenter of military innovation in additive manufacturing (AM) on April 8 and 9, 2025, with the 3rd European Military Additive Manufacturing Symposium.

The application of these technologies will be discussed, taking into account all military perspectives, among original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), machine builders, and service providers, as well as researchers/technologists and military forces (armed forces, procurement agencies, defense planners, troops, etc.).

From a military perspective, additive manufacturing technologies can provide operational advantages: reducing the logistics footprint, managing obsolescence, and much more. The objective of the Symposium is to generate a common understanding of the benefits and limitations of AM and to foster sustainable cooperation among stakeholders to realize the benefits for different applications. In this sense, this third edition is explicitly aimed at the Armed Forces and their planning/purchasing departments, as well as additive manufacturing machine manufacturers and defense OEMs.

Paula Queipo, from Idonial, will participate as a moderator at the "AM Technology" panel on April 9, where the maturity of the technology and the improvement of its capabilities, including its use in the repair of large metal components, will be analyzed with various industries.

In addition, the latest advances in the European Erasmus+ Aileen project will be discussed, which aims to strengthen the qualifications of personnel in the Aerospace and Defense sector. Work is being done, among other things, to update the curricula for qualifications in welding and additive manufacturing, adapting them to the specific requirements of these sectors to ensure that personnel are prepared to implement innovative solutions in a constantly evolving environment.

Idonial has significant experience in the defense sector, especially in Additive Manufacturing technologies, where it has already collaborated with the EDA (National Defense Agency) in studying the feasibility of these technologies and the design and use of deployable airborne factory containers in missions and their use during logistics exercises.
